Moscow (ANTARA) - Russia and North Korea officially opened railway traffic between the two countries on Tuesday (21/4) by crossing the bridge over the Tumen River. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony via video link, Russian Transport Minister Andrey Nikitin stated that rail traffic between the two countries has been realised for the first time in history, made possible by the construction of the road bridge completed today. “Direct rail traffic connecting the two countries will be present for the first time. The most important stage of construction has been completed in less than a year,” said Nikitin. The Tumen bridge route is nearly 5 kilometres long, with the main bridge section spanning 1 kilometre. The bridge has two railway tracks. On the Russian side, the bridge construction involved around 70 workers and 30 units of equipment. Source: Anadolu
