Hotel Indonesia Natour (HIN) or InJourney Hospitality will reopen an iconic hotel on Malioboro, Yogyakarta. Christine Hutabarat, Chief Executive Director of InJourney Hospitality, stated that Grand Hotel De Djokja will be officially inaugurated before the Lebaran 2026 holiday period.

“Alhamdulillah, praise be to God, on 16 March 2026, we will conduct the soft opening of one of InJourney’s hotels in the Malioboro area. Its name is Grand Hotel De Djokja,” said Christine during a press conference regarding InJourney Hospitality’s preparations for the 2026 Lebaran holiday at the Sarinah Building, Monday (9 March 2026).

Christine noted that the hotel is one of InJourney’s properties with significant historical importance. The building once served as a witness to General Soedirman’s efforts in defending the nation’s sovereignty.

Consequently, management has decided to restore the hotel’s name and architecture to its original form when it was first established in 1911. Through this approach, she said, the hotel would function not only as a place of lodging but also as a space that revives the history of the nation’s struggle.

“This hotel is a historical witness to the struggle of General Soedirman, the Commander-in-Chief, in defending the nation’s sovereignty. We are restoring its name and returning its architecture to the year it was established, which was 1911,” she said.

Christine explained that the hotel has a long historical journey with various name changes. When it first opened in 1911, the hotel was named Grand Hotel De Djokja. During the Japanese occupation around 1942, its name changed to Hotel Asahi.
