HIPMI Sidoarjo: Legal Stability is Key to Protecting Economy and Investment
Dimas Pratama, Chairman of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) Sidoarjo, has emphasised the importance of legal certainty and national stability for protecting economic actors, especially micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). He stated that HIPMI respects the ongoing legal processes and supports law enforcement agencies in carrying out their duties professionally, objectively, and in accordance with regulations. “We respect all ongoing legal processes. At the same time, we support all law enforcement institutions to continue working professionally, maintaining integrity, and prioritising legal certainty for the sake of the nation,” Dimas said on Monday.
According to Dimas, stability is a fundamental necessity for the business world. When prolonged uncertainty arises, business actors tend to delay crucial decisions, ranging from investment and business expansion to workforce recruitment. He noted that the impact of such conditions is felt most rapidly by MSMEs. When market confidence declines, people’s purchasing power weakens, money circulation slows, and small businesses become the most vulnerable group. “It is not large corporations that feel the impact first, but rather MSMEs. When market confidence drops, small businesses are the first to experience the pressure,” he explained.
Dimas further highlighted that global economic challenges have not fully subsided. Geopolitical conflicts in various parts of the world continue, while fluctuations in the US dollar exchange rate affect production costs and the prices of various commodities. Amid these conditions, he believes Indonesia requires a stable climate to maintain investor confidence. He argued that legal certainty and regulatory clarity are primary considerations for investors when deciding to invest capital. The better the quality of law enforcement, the greater the potential for investment growth and economic activity.
He expressed hope that all elements of the nation would collaborate and prioritise the public interest. Dimas believes that when all state institutions perform their roles effectively, it sends a positive signal to the business world, encouraging both domestic and foreign investors to invest, create jobs, and strengthen national economic growth. “What society needs today is a sense of security, certainty, and optimism. When stability is maintained, business actors will be more confident in investing, opening job opportunities, and driving the national and regional economy,” he concluded.
