HIPMI Applauds Pertamina's Swift Action to Resolve Fuel Queues in North Sumatra
The Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) has expressed its appreciation for the swift measures taken by Pertamina Patra Niaga to tackle fuel queues at several public filling stations in North Sumatra. The normalisation effort is considered crucial for sustaining the pulse of economic activity and public mobility in the region.
Anthony Leong, Secretary General of the HIPMI Central Executive Board, emphasised that fuel availability plays a strategic role in the smooth functioning of the regional economy. He noted that any disruption to the supply of this commodity has a direct impact on the business world, particularly regarding logistics costs.
“The scarcity and queues for fuel that recently occurred in North Sumatra are a serious concern because they directly affect community and business activities. Fuel is a strategic commodity that influences mobility, goods distribution, and the stability of staple food prices,” Anthony stated on Thursday (16/7/2026).
Anthony highlighted several concrete steps taken by Pertamina to break up the queues and accelerate supply recovery. While appreciating the current tactical measures, he advised Pertamina to conduct a thorough evaluation of the supply chain. He argued that a long-term solution cannot rely solely on adding fleets when problems arise but must address logistics infrastructure and monitoring systems.
“A comprehensive evaluation of the fuel supply chain and distribution system is needed, including the readiness of logistics infrastructure, stock management, and real-time supply monitoring so that distribution can run more effectively,” he added. He also stressed the importance of a robust risk mitigation system and adequate buffer stock to face potential future distribution disruptions.
Beyond Pertamina’s actions, HIPMI also welcomed the unannounced inspection conducted by House of Representatives (DPR) Commission XII member Ade Jona Prasetyo in North Sumatra. This oversight measure is considered important to ensure that energy distribution remains on target and well maintained. Anthony expressed confidence that solid coordination between the DPR, Pertamina, local government, and security forces would accelerate the resolution of problems on the ground. This synergy is expected to minimise public panic caused by inaccurate information and provide certainty for business actors in North Sumatra.
“Ultimately, the synergy of all parties is the key to maintaining the stability of energy supply, supporting the sustainability of regional economic activities, and providing certainty for the community and business actors,” he concluded.
