Hino's financing services help reduce bus chassis sales decline
Jakarta — PT Hino Motors Sales Indonesia, operating under the Indomobil Group, managed to limit the decline in bus chassis sales during 2025 with support from its in-house financing service.
Without the backing of its financing service, the company would have faced a steeper sales decline. “If it wasn’t supported, the decline wouldn’t be 19 per cent — it could have been at least 25 per cent,” said Susilo Darmawan, Director of Sales and After-Sales at PT Hino Motors Sales Indonesia, in Jakarta on Friday, 27 February.
Hino markets chassis for large 4x2 buses and medium-sized 4x2 buses complying with Euro 4 standards. Its large bus chassis products include the RM280 ABS, RK280 STD, and RK280 ABS variants, which are commonly used for tourism vehicles and long-distance transport services.
According to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Manufacturers (Gaikindo), domestic bus chassis sales in 2025 reached 4,541 units, down 1,100 units from the previous year.
Hino’s overall chassis production in 2025 totalled 18,450 units, declining from 23,823 units in 2024. The company experienced wholesale order declines (factory to dealer) of up to 24 per cent, with sales dropping to 18,367 units in 2025 from 24,158 units in 2024.
Darmawan attributed the bus chassis sales decline to reduced demand for bus services and unstable economic conditions. He noted that recent policies restricting or banning tours in certain areas had dampened passenger demand. “Policies regarding restrictions or bans on conducting tours in certain areas have caused passenger demand to decline,” he explained.
The unstable economic situation also made banks and financing providers more cautious about extending credit for automotive purchases. “With the current economic instability, financing companies and banks are naturally more careful. They must consider all the risks associated with lending to consumers,” Darmawan stated.
Under these circumstances, Hino’s in-house financing service, which eases access to credit for potential customers, proved essential in mitigating the decline in bus chassis sales.
