Padang (ANTARA) - The Student Organisation Capacity Strengthening Programme (PPK Ormawa) team from the Computer Engineering Student Association (Himatekom) at Andalas University (Unand) Padang has introduced GiziCerdas, a technological innovation designed to assist in measuring and monitoring child growth and nutritional status.

“GiziCerdas is used to measure a child’s height and weight. The usage is quite simple; the child only needs to stand on the device, and the sensors will automatically read the height and weight,” said the Head of the Himatelag Unand PPK Ormawa Team, Khairiansyah Nizam, in Padang on Tuesday.

The innovation was introduced as part of the 70th Anniversary celebrations of Unand, as an effort to showcase the use of technology in helping cadres and the community obtain nutritional measurement data more practically.

GiziCerdas is a measurement and growth data management system designed to assist the monitoring process of child nutritional status, consisting of measuring hardware and an application that serves as a central data management hub.

Furthermore, the system processes anthropometric data by calculating growth indicators in the form of Z-scores based on World Health Organization (WHO) growth standards.

In this processing, the results of height and weight measurements are not merely raw data, but can provide information regarding the child’s growth and nutritional condition.

“What we are developing through GiziCerdas is not just a tool to measure height and weight. We are attempting to build an integrated system encompassing the processes of measurement, data transmission and storage, anthropometric data processing, growth history monitoring, and data presentation to assist in the monitoring and management of toddler data,” he stated.

He added that the team is also developing supporting features for managing Posyandu (integrated healthcare centre) activities, toddler data, measurement history, reporting and data export, as well as analytics and mapping of toddler coverage based on available regional data.

The system also allows for flexible data management via the application, including for measurement results that were not conducted using the GiziCerdas hardware.

“Our hope is that GiziCerdas can help make the process of measuring and managing growth data more integrated, so that the data obtained from measurement activities is not just recorded, but can also be processed and utilised effectively,” he said.

The Himatekom PPK Ormawa team hopes that this innovation can be further developed, both in terms of technology and field application, to provide benefits to the community and support more integrated child growth recording and monitoring, thereby assisting efforts to prevent stunting in society.
