Hilman Latief Denies Receiving Funds in Hajj Corruption Case, KPK Uncovers Different Facts
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has responded to the denial by the former Director General of Hajj and Umrah Organistion (PHU) at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Hilman Latief, regarding the receipt of funds related to the ongoing Hajj quota corruption investigation. The KPK stated that they have uncovered facts that differ from Hilman’s claims.
“Even if it is stated that no funds were received, perhaps what is meant is direct flows. However, we have found other facts, involving both indirect and direct flows,” said the Acting Director of Investigation at the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, at the KPK building in South Jakarta on Tuesday (2/6/2026).
Achmad noted that he became aware of Hilman’s denial through media reports. The KPK emphasised that the information provided by Hilman differs from the findings of their investigation.
“We can ensure that what has been stated may differ somewhat from the processes or investigation results that we have found,” he said, adding that the matter would be subject to further confirmation as the individual had already provided statements during questioning.
It is known that the denial was made by Hilman following Eid al-Adha prayers at the Muhammadiyah office in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (27/5/2026). Hilman claimed he did not benefit from a single penny.
“There were no money flows; try asking if any money went to Mr Hilman? There was none. Regarding the quota corruption money, just ask (the KPK),” said Hilman.
He stated that his family has been devastated by the case and reiterated that he received no funds related to the matter.
“I have stopped responding to that; for eight months the media has written such things and I remained silent. My family is broken. My mother is devastated, my father suffered a stroke, everything. I do not comment in the media, but the media continues constantly. I even protested, asking how my name could be portrayed like that,” he said.
Hilman himself was questioned by KPK investigators on Wednesday (20/5). This was his second interrogation following a previous session in September 2025, where he was questioned for 11 hours regarding the flow of corruption funds in the Hajj quota case.
In this Hajj quota corruption case, the KPK has named four suspects:
Former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (YCQ)
Former Special Staff to the Minister, Ishfah Abidal Azis, also known as Gus Alex (IAA)
Operational Director of PT Makassar Toraja (Maktour), Ismail Adham (ISM)
Chairperson of the Kesthuri Association, Asrul Azis Taba (ASR).
The KPK stated that the state losses in this case amount to Rp 622 billion, according to calculations by the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK).
