Hillary column
Hillary column
Last Sunday's Jakarta Post (Feb.4) featured its usual syndicated column of Hillary Clinton's "Talk It Over".
For the readers' benefit I shall repeat verbatim what Hillary expressed towards the end of her passage "Americans equipped best to help the world".
"Now is no time to recede from our commitment to peace around the world. When we hear about Bosnia, Haiti, the Middle East or Northern Ireland, let's not forget that behind the numbers, graphs and charts are the faces of human suffering. By helping people achieve peace and freedom beyond our borders, we are creating a world that reflects our own American ideals. In the end, we are not just helping others. We are helping ourselves".
How laudable these sentiments are! Emanating from the White House and directly from the "better-half" of the President of the United States of America, Hillary's views carry mighty significance to the whole world. It's clear that through her articles, she wishes to reach out and touch the hearts of as many people as possible.
Hillary Clinton apparently takes an active interest in all that's going on around her. Her well-meaning articles portray a sense of purpose and direction with sound common sense. What stands out is her sincere and genuine concern for issues that affect all the down-trodden people around the globe.
Hillary is only an illustration of what women can do. Actually, women's potential is currently under-utilized and underrated everywhere. They are also endowed with lots and lots of brainpower.
Just witness the capabilities of the female administrative staff that we see around our workplaces. How competent they are! Given equal opportunities, they seem to outshine men, probably because of their total involvement and dedication.
There is indeed a ray of hope for mankind if sensible and mature leaders come to occupy the highest seats of power so that they may properly mold the destinies of their nations. It would be even more advantageous if such leaders were blessed with noble and intelligent spouses, as in the case of Clinton.
One should agree that behind every successful man stands a good woman. But then, if that woman happens to be as considerate and brilliant as Hillary, well, even the American presidency is within one's reach.
