Highlighting Rise in Sexual Violence Cases, Cak Imin Urges Local Governments to Launch Hotlines

The Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB), Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar (commonly known as Cak Imin), has condemned acts of sexual violence occurring in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) across various regions. Cak Imin urged local governments to establish emergency hotlines to provide rapid response services for sexual violence incidents.

“To all local governments, I truly hope you open hotlines—as many hotlines as possible,” Cak Imin stated during his speech at the National Meeting of Islamic Boarding Schools: Pesantren Movement Against Sexual Violence, on Monday (18/5/2026).

He also expressed gratitude to the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Arifah Fauzi, for her rapid response to the issue. He emphasised that these emergency services should be implemented extensively, reaching even the lowest levels of local administration.

The PKB-organised event was attended by prominent figures, including KH. Said Agil Siroj, Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar, and Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Arifah Fauzi.

“Incidents of violence, whether physical, mental, or sexual, are occurring across all sectors. Personally, I have concluded that we have reached a level of violence emergency,” Cak Imin added.
