Jakarta, VIVA – Pulung Agustanto, a member of Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), has requested that the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) treat the high rates of maternal and infant mortality as a severe alarm for the national health system.

As stated by Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, approximately 4,000 mothers and 30,000 infants die every year in Indonesia. The Ministry of Health aims to reduce maternal deaths to below 400 cases and infant deaths to below 3,000 cases per year.
