Highlighting Efficiency, Prabowo Compares Rp 700 Million Maung to Rp 8 Billion Official Vehicle
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Many government officials in Indonesia are deemed inefficient in using budgets to carry out their duties.
President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto cited the example of an East Kalimantan (Kaltim) governor using an official vehicle with a fantastically high price.
“The regional government bought a governor’s official vehicle for how much? Rp 8 billion, the province,” said Prabowo, quoted in the Prabowo Menjawab video, on Thursday (19/3/2026).
He compared that as president, Prabowo uses a domestically produced Maung vehicle priced at Rp 700 million.
Prabowo also said that regional governments often use budgets for working visits with excessive numbers.
“Enough of that, that’s what we ask for awareness, a sense of responsibility,” he stated.
Prabowo also urged regional governments to prioritise work for the people.
“Regents, work for your people, governors work for your people, that’s what we ask,” he said.
Prabowo explained that in the early days of his government, it has saved Rp 308 trillion or equivalent to 18 billion US dollars through efficiency measures.
“There is still much that we can save,” he said.
He cited one savable cost as ceremonial events in ministries and agencies.
Several other things that can also be made more efficient include printing costs and souvenirs up to the purchase of office stationery.
Not only that, Prabowo also highlighted budgets for building rentals, equipment, and meeting seminar costs.
“There is already a ministry office, all officials want to hold meetings outside the region, outside the city, some want to go to Bali,” said Prabowo.
