Jakarta — The West Jakarta City Government has received a record from the Indonesian World Record Museum (MURI) for the highest number of blood donors during Ramadhan 1447 Hijriah.

MURI Deputy Director Osmar Susilo stated that West Jakarta served as the representative region receiving the record certificate for a blood donation activity conducted simultaneously across three regions: West Sumatra, Riau, and DKI Jakarta.

“Today’s record is deeply moving because it is humanitarian in nature and represents the highest number of blood donations in Ramadhan,” said Osmar following the presentation of the certificate at the West Jakarta Mayor’s office on Friday evening.

The activity took place in West Sumatra, Riau, and Jakarta, represented today by West Jakarta (Jakbar).

“The 8,000 donors figure is actually still an approximate number, as it continues to increase. So perhaps tomorrow or the day after we will have confirmed the exact figure,” Osmar explained.

West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah stated that donations in the region have so far reached 4,000 people and continue to grow.

“This is a record for us, because we have never done this simultaneously for five consecutive days before,” said Iin.

Nevertheless, Iin emphasised that the MURI record was not the primary goal of the blood donation drive. “Speaking of records is a bonus, but our actual objective is humanitarian in nature,” said Iin.

For this reason, Iin herself participated in donating blood and instructed the local Regional Work Units (UKPD) to become involved.

“We need all components to help. Together we collaborate and promote a humanitarian action through blood donation,” she said.

The Chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) DKI Jakarta, Beky Mardani, added that the organisation had deployed donation units to several locations in Jakarta to maintain blood supply during Ramadhan.

Additionally, the organisation provided incentive packages containing basic necessities for donors to encourage blood donation participation.

With the intensified blood donation activities in Jakarta, Beky assured that blood supplies remain secure during Ramadhan. “God willing, with all these activities, blood supplies are safe,” he said.

On Friday around 8:00 PM, hundreds of donors from West Jakarta residents formed long queues to participate in the blood donation drive.

Dozens of beds and Indonesian Red Cross personnel filled half of the Ali Sadikin Hall at the West Jakarta City Government building.

After donating blood, each donor received a package of basic necessities as a token of appreciation for their participation in the humanitarian effort.
