PT Jasa Marga (Persero) has recorded the highest traffic flow in history during this year’s Eid exodus peak in Indonesia. A total of more than 270,000 vehicles left Jakarta.

The peak of this year’s Eid exodus occurred on Wednesday (18 March). The traffic volume handled by Jasa Marga reached 270,315 vehicles, an increase of 98.3% from normal times and 4.8% compared to the 2025 Eid exodus peak.

The figure of 270,000 vehicles represents the cumulative traffic flow from four main toll gates (GT), namely GT Cikupa (westbound), GT Ciawi (southbound), and GT Cikampek and GT Kalihurip Utama (eastbound).

“Not only those exiting through the four main toll gates. We also recorded the highest record in serving traffic flow towards the Trans Java Toll Road to date, reaching 175,754 vehicles. This is an increase of 6% compared to last year’s exodus peak,” said Jasa Marga President Director Rivan A. Purwantono to reporters on Friday (20 March 2026).

According to Rivan, although the number of vehicles passing through Jasa Marga Group toll roads reached a record high, traffic conditions were well controlled due to effective traffic engineering in dispersing congestion.

“Congestion was monitored on the MBZ Elevated Road and the lower Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road. To anticipate the surge in vehicle volume, Jasa Marga, together with the police, has implemented traffic engineering in the form of contraflow from one lane to three lanes, up to the implementation of a national one-way system from Km 70 to Km 414. The volume of vehicles passing through both sections was recorded as the highest in the history of their operation,” he added.

Rivan also explained that, in line with the prepared traffic engineering scenario, congestion is targeted to be maximally dispersed within 1x12 hours. On Thursday (19 March) at 11:00 WIB, traffic conditions were reported to have returned to smooth with average vehicle speeds back to normal.

“Jasa Marga will continue to optimise the use of technology as a ‘decision support system’ that supports traffic engineering decisions made by the Police based on current field conditions. Very intensive cross-sectoral coordination involving all stakeholders comprehensively will also be continuously improved going forward,” said Rivan.

In addition, Jasa Marga also urges drivers with three-axle or more vehicles to comply with the provisions of the Joint Decree (SKB) of the Director General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation, the National Police Traffic Corps Chief, and the Director General of Highway Development of the Ministry of Public Works dated 5 February 2026 on Traffic Regulation and Crossing During the 2026/1447H Eid Exodus and Return Flow Period regarding restrictions on goods vehicle operations, including not passing through at the specified times.

Ahead of the return flow period, Jasa Marga urges the public to plan their journeys even better by avoiding the predicted return peak on 24 March 2026.

Rivan also urges drivers to take advantage of the toll fee discounts that will be applied during the return flow period from 26 March 2026 at 00:00 WIB until 27 March 2026 at 00:00 WIB.

“As with the exodus flow, Jasa Marga once again urges the public to arrange return departure times to support smooth traffic flow so that the travel experience during the 2026 Eid exodus and return becomes safer and more comfortable,” said Rivan.
