and corruption

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has announced plans to
increase the salaries of civil servants and soldiers in an
attempt to reduce corruption.

In my view, it is more appropriate to raise salaries for the
purpose of improving welfare rather than reducing graft, because
even as we have gotten new presidents and higher salaries,
corruption has continued to spread.

When it comes to morality, corruption will prevail over salary
increases. For example, with their big salaries some legislators
and high-ranking government officials continue to be involved in
corruption. This is because of the depraved nature of some
officials.
