Higher parking fees planned

JAKARTA: Governor Sutiyoso submitted on Tuesday a draft of the bylaw on the fee for vehicle parking for further deliberation by the City Council.

Sutiyoso said if the draft was passed into a bylaw by the City Council, it was expected to boost the city's revenue as there was still a lot of money from vehicle parking tax that could be collected by the administration.

The city administration is giving consideration to raising the parking fees managed by the private sector, particularly in strategic areas. "In certain areas, Rp 1,000 per hour is too cheap," he added.

The governor said the off-street parking managed by the private sector was expected to make a significant contribution to the city's revenue as the administration would impose a 20 percent tax on the turnover.

He said that there were some 420 parking lots managed by private sector, while the permits to manage 261 other locations were being processed. --JP
