Higher education poor: Official
BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Ministry of National Education Director General of Higher Education Satrio Soemantri Brodjonegoro said that higher education in developing countries, including Indonesia, was still far behind that in developed nations.
Speaking at the celebration of the 41st anniversary of Banjarmasin-based Lambung Mangkurat University on Thursday, Satrio said the poor state of higher education could be seen from the low quality of its graduates.
He said that higher education in developing countries had not made any significant contribution to the development of science.
According to him, the poor state of higher education was affected mainly by the absence of vision and the lack of political and financial commitment.
The director general acknowledged that there was an increasing need for higher education in Indonesia.
"But without national support or other measures, the quality of our graduates will remain poor," he said. -- Antara
