WAMENA (ANTARA) — Indonesia’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) is strongly committed to developing the nation’s human resources, particularly in disadvantaged, frontier and outermost (3T) regions.

Ahmad Najib Burhani, the ministry’s Director General of Science and Technology, said in Wamena on Sunday that Minister Brian Yuliarto was deeply concerned about higher education in remote parts of the archipelago.

“He allowed his staff, including director-generals, to travel in his place to several locations very far from Jakarta, including Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency, to attend the 18th graduation ceremony of Amal Ilmiah University (Unaim) Wamena,” he said.

“Our presence here reflects Kemdiktisaintek’s commitment to accelerating education and improving human resources in Indonesia,” he said.

Burhani recounted that, shortly after Brian Yuliarto was appointed minister, he visited universities in remote Atambua, Belu Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, and in North Kalimantan.

He added that visits to universities across remote parts of the country were intended to assess the quality of education and the suitability of campus facilities in those areas.

“That is the spirit behind the minister’s decision to allow us to attend Unaim Wamena’s 18th graduation ceremony. We hope the graduates will become agents of change when they return to their communities and support the local government’s programmes and policies,” said Burhani.
