Jakarta (ANTARA) - The head of the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) of DKI Jakarta, Satriadi Gunawan, has stated that factors such as age and the health condition of personnel must be given attention to prevent any more members from dying due to exhaustion.

Satriadi noted that currently, some members are even aged over 45 years, thus requiring careful management of workloads.

“Indeed, not all cases are directly linked to workloads, but the condition of personnel shortages has the potential to overburden members in the field,” Satriadi revealed in Jakarta on Saturday.

Therefore, strategic steps are needed to alleviate this burden. The DKI Jakarta Satpol PP is proposing an increase in the number of personnel with younger ages as a forward-looking anticipatory measure.

Currently, the total available personnel is around 5,000 people, while the ideal requirement is estimated to reach more than 10,000 personnel.

“The proposal has been submitted and is hoped to receive attention in future discussions,” said Satriadi.

Previously, Satriadi had mentioned that the heavy workload and the lack of supporting facilities and infrastructure were among the causes of 35 members dying within a one-year period.

This number is deemed disproportionate to the tasks that must be carried out, from supervision to area enforcement. As a result, many members have to work for very long durations, even up to 36 hours.

In addition, Satriadi also conveyed to the legislators regarding supporting facilities such as rest areas that are still minimal. Yet, Satpol PP members must stand guard for 24 hours at ward offices.

Therefore, currently many Satpol PP members are forced to rest in prayer rooms or office corridors because adequate rest rooms are not available. This condition is seen as impacting the health and stamina of the officers.

Due to exhaustion, many members end up suffering from high blood pressure. This was revealed after health examinations were conducted on the personnel.

“How can they work well the next day to carry out enforcement? Their blood pressure is surely high all the time. That’s why we conducted checks yesterday, a medical check-up, and it turned out the blood pressure levels were extraordinarily high,” he said.

On that occasion, he also hoped that the DKI Jakarta DPRD, particularly Commission A, could pay attention to the needs for facilities and infrastructure as well as more humane working hour arrangements for Satpol PP members.
