The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued an early warning regarding the potential for high waves reaching 2.5 to 4 metres and the danger of tidal flooding threatening 10 provinces in Indonesia on Tuesday.

BMKG forecaster Medayu Bestari, in a weather update broadcast in Jakarta on Tuesday, urged coastal communities and maritime transport operators to increase vigilance due to the impact of these extreme weather conditions.

“Winds in Indonesia are generally blowing between 5 to 25 knots, triggering high waves of 2.5 to 4 metres in the Indian Ocean from west of Aceh to south of Banten, the Indian Ocean from south of Central Java to East Java, and south of West Nusa Tenggara,” he stated.

In addition to the maritime sector, BMKG is monitoring the emergence of Tropical Cyclone Seed 92W in the Andaman Sea off the coast of Myanmar, which is triggering increased rain cloud formation in the waters north of Aceh.

BMKG also warned air transport operators of the potential danger posed by cumulonimbus clouds around western Sumatra, the Indian Ocean west of Indonesia, and the central Papua region.

Light rain is expected in the cities of Palu, Serang, and Bandung. Meanwhile, conditions will be partly cloudy in Jakarta, Semarang, and Surabaya, and heavily cloudy in Yogyakarta, Denpasar, Mataram, Kupang, Gorontalo, Mamuju, Makassar, and Kendari.

Regarding inland areas, although dry conditions still dominate—triggering risks of drought and forest fires in Banjarmasin, Palangkaraya, and Samarinda—the potential for localised heavy rain remains possible in several locations.

In light of these conditions, BMKG encourages the public to actively update weather information regularly by downloading their mobile application or accessing the official infobmkg application channel before engaging in outdoor activities.
