Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has announced that waves reaching heights of 2.5 to 4 metres are likely to affect several Indonesian waters from 10 to 13 June 2026. According to information shared via the BMKG’s social media accounts, waves of 2.5 to 4 metres are expected to appear in parts of the Indian Ocean west of the Nias Islands and the waters south of Banten during this period. The waters off Bengkulu, Lampung, West Java, Central Java, the Special Region of Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara also have the potential to face waves of 2.5 to 4 metres until 13 June 2026. The BMKG stated that high waves could pose risks to maritime safety. Residents are advised to pay close attention to weather conditions before sailing or travelling using sea transportation. According to the BMKG, winds of 15 knots and wave heights of 1.25 metres can pose safety risks for fishing boat operations. Barge operations are considered risky when wind speeds reach 16 knots and wave heights are around 1.5 metres. Ferries could face safety risks if wind speeds reach 21 knots and wave heights reach 2.5 metres. The BMKG has urged fishermen, ship operators, and coastal communities to monitor information on weather and sea waves to anticipate safety risks during activities at sea.
