High Vehicle Traffic Entering Trans-Sumatra Toll Road During Lebaran Return Flow
JAKARTA - Vehicle traffic heading to Sumatra Island via the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS) continues to rise during the 2026 Lebaran return period, in line with the high mobility of the public.
PT Hutama Karya reported that 257,546 vehicles entered Sumatra via JTTS on 23 March 2026. This figure surged by 184.20% compared to normal conditions.
Acting EVP Corporate Secretary of Hutama Karya, Hamdani, stated that the traffic increase is still occurring on several main sections, particularly inter-city connecting routes and access to urban areas.
He explained that the high vehicle volume is influenced by the ongoing movement of the public during the Lebaran holiday, both for return trips and towards tourist destinations.
Several toll sections recorded the most significant surges. The Padang-Sicincin Toll saw the highest percentage increase with 10,514 vehicles, up 459.85%.
This was followed by the Sigli-Banda Aceh Toll Sections 2-6 (Seulimeum-Baitussalam) with 17,206 vehicles, an increase of 455.03% compared to normal traffic.
Increases were also seen on the Pekanbaru-XIII Koto Kampar Toll, which recorded 19,430 vehicles (up 308.45%), and the Bengkulu-Taba Penanjung Toll with 5,893 vehicles, an increase of 283.41%.
On sections still operating functionally, vehicle movement was also monitored to be quite high. The Sigli-Banda Aceh Toll Section 1 (Seulimeum-Padang Tiji) was traversed by 6,071 vehicles, while the Palembang-Betung Toll Section Kramasan-Pangkalan Balai recorded 6,453 vehicles.
