High Ticket Prices Ahead of Eid Holiday Draw Parliamentary Scrutiny
JAKARTA — The Speaker of Parliament, Puan Maharani, has instructed parliamentary commissions to summon relevant ministries and agencies to discuss the surge in transport ticket prices ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026/1447 H.
The measure has been taken to ensure the comfort of returning travellers during the Eid holiday celebrations.
“We will ask all relevant commissions to summon or hold meetings with the government and related agencies to anticipate various matters ahead of the upcoming Eid,” said Puan at Parliament complex in Jakarta on Thursday (12 March 2026).
Cross-sector coordination, according to Puan, is necessary to anticipate potential obstacles to the return travel flow.
“Not only transport or ticket prices, but also safety when people depart and when they return must be a shared concern,” said Puan.
On the occasion, Puan urged the government to maintain the stability of food commodity prices ahead of and through Eid.
“The government must ensure that when celebrating the religious holiday, people can enjoy the moment without worrying about rising basic commodity prices,” said the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) politician.
Notably, domestic flight ticket prices can be more expensive than international flights.
This was highlighted by PDI-P politician Lasarus during a cross-government coordination meeting on preparations for the 2026 Eid travel surge, also attended by Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi on Wednesday (11 March 2026).
“We have received many complaints about expensive tickets, Sir, Minister. Particularly about air transport ticket prices,” said Lasarus.
The PDI-P politician provided examples of aircraft ticket prices he checked through a travel booking application.
For flights from Jakarta to eastern Indonesia, prices have already reached tens of millions of rupiah for a single journey.
