High Teen Pregnancy Cases Prompt Pademangan to Launch 'Bunga Desa' Programme
The Pademangan Community Health Centre in North Jakarta is running the ‘Bunga Desa’ (Unggul Pembinaan Anemia Control and Healthy Emotional Support) programme in response to the high number of teenage pregnancies in the sub-district. In 2024, there were 101 recorded cases of teenage pregnancy in Pademangan, and by mid-2025, 62 cases had already been recorded. The programme is an integrated effort to improve the physical and mental health of pregnant women, particularly adolescents. One of the innovations under the programme is the Kenanga Group, which provides educational assistance for pregnant teenagers alongside family members to strengthen support from their immediate environment. Participants receive materials on healthy pregnancy, childbirth preparation, self-care, balanced nutrition, and mental readiness. The health centre has also introduced digital and visual educational media through the Dahlia and Teratai platforms, which facilitate continuous assistance to improve compliance with Antenatal Care (ANC) check-ups and prevent the risk of complications. In addition to receiving educational materials, participants practise preparing healthy menus using the ‘Isi Piringku’ method with the aid of food models. Evaluations showed that participants’ understanding reached an average of 100 per cent in post-tests, indicating increased knowledge about health during pregnancy. A local resident, Nazwa, 18, said the activity was very beneficial as it was her first pregnancy experience, adding that the education helped increase her knowledge and reduce anxiety. Previously, obstetrics and gynaecology specialist Dr Upik Anggraheni explained that teenage pregnancy is not recommended due to the high risk of complications for both mother and foetus, as the reproductive organs and pelvic bones are not yet fully mature.
