High Season: Tulamben Beach in Karangasem Crowded with Diving Tourists

Tulamben Beach, located in the Kubu District of Karangasmen, Bali, has long been renowned for its underwater natural beauty. The waters of Tulamben serve as one of the premier diving spots in Karangasem and are frequently visited by international tourists during the high season.

Observations indicate that hundreds of international tourists are arriving in rotation to engage in diving or snorkelling in Tulamben waters. According to available data, the number of visiting tourists reaches approximately 200 people per day, and can even exceed this on certain days.

“It is quite crowded; it has been like this almost every day since last July,” said I Putu Antara, a diving guide, when met at Tulamben Beach on Sunday (30/08/2026).

Antara visits almost daily to guide dives due to the high volume of tourists. However, during the low season, he may only have the opportunity to guide twice a month.

“All tourists arriving for diving certainly request to be taken to the Liberty Shipwreck, as it is the favourite spot for all visiting tourists,” Antara noted.

Antara expressed hope that relevant authorities could continue to maintain the Liberty Shipwreck underwater in Tulamben. He suggested that adding new spots could further attract tourists for diving activities.

The Head of Tulamben Village, I Nyoman Pica, confirmed that tourist arrivals at Tulamben Beach are quite high during the middle of the year due to the high season. Tourist numbers typically decline as the rainy season approaches.

“It is currently busy because it is the high season and the weather is favourable. Therefore, tourists are comfortable conducting diving activities,” said Pica.

In addition to the weather, the sea conditions in Tulamben also influence the number of diving tourists. For instance, about two weeks ago, visitor numbers were low due to murky seawater and very large waves.

“Tourist visits depend on the conditions on the ground, so it is not always crowded every day, even during the high season,” Pica added.

Pica hopes that tourist arrivals at Tulamben Beach will continue to increase throughout the high season. Many parties benefit from the arrival of tourists, ranging from diving guides, drivers, and porters to traders around Tulamben Beach.
