High School Student in Belu Recovers from Assault by Teacher; Family Rejects Settlement

A student at SMA Negeri 1 Atambua in Belu District, East Nusa Tenggara Province, named Zivania Martins Naibuti (16), has been declared fit following intensive medical treatment at RSUD Gabriel Manek Atambua hospital after being pulled by the hair and struck by her teacher. However, Zivania continues to experience dizziness.

“She has been discharged from hospital. Her condition is fairly good, though she feels slightly dizzy when standing for prolonged periods,” said Zivania’s father, Simon Naibuti, to detikBali on Monday, 2 March 2026.

Simon explained that his eldest child of two was discharged from RSUD Gabriel Manek on Friday afternoon, 27 February 2026. According to Simon, the case continues to be processed despite SMA Negeri 1 Atambua Principal Dominikus Seran Bria’s efforts to encourage a family settlement.

“We have not agreed to settle. The case will proceed,” Simon stated.

He confirmed that the police examination of his daughter was scheduled for that day at approximately 15:00 Western Indonesia Time at Belu Police Station. He hopes the case will be handled professionally so the family can obtain legal certainty.

“At 3 o’clock this afternoon we will give her statement at the police interview,” Simon added.

Chief of Criminal Investigation at Belu Police Station AKP Rachmat Hidayat said his office was still confirming the schedule with the Women and Child Protection Unit (PPA) at Belu Police Station. “I will check,” said Rachmat.

It was previously reported that Zivania fainted and was hospitalised after allegedly being assaulted by her teacher, Vince Aplugi. The incident occurred during class at approximately 12:00 Western Indonesia Time on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.

“The accused assaulted the victim using a bottle containing mineral water, pulled her hair and struck her against a chair until she lost consciousness and experienced headaches and dizziness,” said Chief of Criminal Investigation at Belu Police Station AKP Rachmat Hidayat to detikBali on Wednesday, 25 February 2026.

Rachmat recounted that the incident began when Zivania was taking a Biology examination in class. The examination included a question requiring students to draw a nerve cell. However, Zivania and her classmates were unable to complete the drawing.

As a result, Vince, the Biology teacher, immediately struck Zivania on the head with the bottle. He then handed the bottle to Zivania.
