The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) believes that the case of a high school girl who was struck by an electric commuter train (KRL) should serve as a momentum for parents to pay more attention to their children’s condition.

“This is an alarm for all of us to pay more attention to children’s condition, especially regarding parenting and interaction,” said KPAI member Diyah Puspitarini when contacted in Jakarta on Thursday.

She suspects that the victim did intend to end her life.

“Regarding the child at Jurangmangu Station, it does point towards ending her life,” said Diyah Puspitarini.

She assessed that the victim should have received attention, both from family and close friends.

Previously, on Monday (10/8) afternoon, the victim (14), who was wearing a white and grey school uniform, was struck by a KRL at Jurangmangu Station, South Tangerang.

The victim was found by station security officers on the KRL track of the Tanah Abang–Rangkasbitung route.

The victim’s body was then secured and taken to South Tangerang City Regional General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The following day, the victim was buried in Pondok Ranji, East Ciputat, South Tangerang.

The victim was known to reside in Pondok Ranji and was registered as a grade 10 high school student or equivalent.
