High School Diploma Equivalency Certificate for Gibran Ruled Invalid

Jakarta — The Supreme Court has granted an appeal in a case concerning the validity of Vice-President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s high school diploma equivalency certificate. The decision is set out in ruling No. 742 K/TUN/2026, filed by a member of the public named Subhan.

The court declared the certificate invalid and null and void.

“The ruling: appeal granted, the judex facti decision overturned, and the case decided on its merits: the claimant’s entire lawsuit is granted,” the ruling stated, as quoted on Friday (30 October 2026).

The decision annuls the high school education equivalency certificate issued in Gibran’s name by the Ministry of Education, formally rendering the document invalid.

The appeal was decided on 30 October 2026 by a panel led by Yulius, Chief of the Supreme Court’s State Administrative Chamber. Supreme Court justices Maftuh Effendi and Hari Sugiharto also sat on the case.

Former deputy law and human rights minister Denny Indrayana also announced the appeal ruling on his official Instagram account. Denny is an associate of Subhan in the case.

“Mr Subhan’s appeal seeking the annulment of Gibran’s education equivalency certificate has been granted,” Denny wrote.

Denny said the appeal ruling concerned Gibran’s educational qualifications, which had previously been examined by the Constitutional Court.

“This means the Supreme Court is in line with the Constitutional Court’s ruling that Gibran indeed does not meet the educational requirements,” he said.
