High Passenger Movement: KAI Records 174,198 Long-Distance Train Passengers Travelling Today
Passenger movement on trains during the 2026 Eid transport period remains high. Today (21/3), 174,198 long-distance train passengers are scheduled to travel, with a temporary occupancy rate of 108.1%. This number could still increase as ticket sales continue.
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) urges all passengers to be more careful in safeguarding their carry-on items during the homecoming journey, both at stations and on board the trains.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, stated that the high passenger mobility needs to be matched with increased vigilance over personal belongings to ensure safe and comfortable travel.
“In the midst of high mobility during the Eid transport period, we urge our passengers to always pay attention to and safeguard their carry-on items, especially valuables, to prevent them from being left behind or misplaced,” said Anne.
KAI, continued Anne, continues to strengthen lost and found item handling services at stations and on trains. This step is taken to provide a sense of security and comfort for passengers during their journeys.
For information, in January 2026, the number of found items at stations and on trains was recorded at 2,038 items with an estimated value of Rp1,404,815,000.
This number increased in February 2026 to 3,578 items with an estimated value of Rp2,805,671,000. Of the total found items in February, 863 were valuables, such as mobile phones, tablets, and jewellery.
Anne explained that every item found by staff at stations or on trains will be announced via public address systems. If not claimed, the items will be secured and recorded in detail in the Lost and Found system.
“We prioritise data accuracy and item security. Every item is checked, recorded, and stored according to procedures so it can be returned to its owner accurately,” clarified Anne.
For passengers who feel they have lost or left behind items, KAI urges them to immediately report to the conductor, security personnel, or Lost and Found service staff at the destination station.
Passengers can also contact KAI’s Contact Center 121 via telephone at 121 or WhatsApp at 0811-1211-1121 for further assistance.
In addition to safeguarding carry-on items, passengers are urged to store valuables in easily monitored places, not to leave items unattended, and to double-check all belongings before alighting from the train or leaving the station area.
“KAI hopes that the high passenger movement during the 2026 Eid Transport period can remain orderly, safe, and comfortable, in line with increased passenger awareness in safeguarding their respective belongings,” concluded Anne.
