High Fences at Kota Kasablanka Mall Removed

The atmosphere in front of the Kota Kasablanka (Kokas) mall in Jakarta has returned to an open state after the iron fences previously installed at the mall’s entrance were dismantled. The presence of the fences, which stood approximately two metres high, had drawn significant public attention and sparked various speculations on social media regarding the reasons for their installation. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung had previously highlighted the installation of high fences at several shopping centres, noting that such measures could potentially create the impression that Jakarta’s security situation is not conducive. Following this public scrutiny, the fences at Kota Kasablanka have been removed, restoring an open appearance and ensuring the area remains easily accessible to visitors. The dismantling serves as a response to concerns regarding the management of public spaces in the capital, which are deemed necessary to maintain a sense of safety without creating an atmosphere of enclosure or exclusivity.
