High Demand Leads to Two-Month Wait for Daihatsu Gran Max Orders
JAKARTA - The Gran Max continues to be one of the mainstays of Daihatsu’s sales in Indonesia. Indeed, with the growth of businesses in the commercial sector, interest in this light commercial vehicle has also increased. From various sectors, one that has boosted sales of the Daihatsu Gran Max is the transportation needs for fulfilling the Free Nutritious Meals programme or MBG. However, when asked about the portion of Gran Max sales for MBG, Tri Mulyono, Marketing & CR Division Head of PT Astra International Tbk – Daihatsu Sales Operation, explained that it cannot be disclosed precisely. “Actually, we at Daihatsu cannot separate which ones are definite (whether for MBG or other sectors), because retail or individual demand is also high,” said Tri to the media in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4/2026). According to him, compared to Q4 of the previous year, in Q3 2025, growth for the pickup type increased from the usual 3,300 units to 4,200 units. Meanwhile, for the blind van, it rose from around 1,200 units to 2,300 units. “But we cannot identify whether this is indeed triggered by MBG, because currently, besides the increase from the retail side with individual names, we are also receiving from the logistics side in the form of fleets. But certainly, there is an increase of around 40 percent for the Gran Max between before Q3 and Q4,” said Tri. The high interest in the Daihatsu Gran Max has also led to order queues for unit availability, especially for those two models. “Indeed, the conditions vary by outlet, as each has different stock availability. But in general, currently the Gran Max pickup is about one month, and the blind van between one and a half to two months,” he stated. Throughout 2025, the Gran Max pickup recorded sales of more than 43,000 units. This achievement positions the model as the market leader with 58 percent share in the low-end pickup segment.
