High Cost of Maintaining Seized Assets of Corrupt Officials, Attorney General Calls for Annual Auctions
Burhanuddin delivered the remarks at the closing of BPA Fair 2026 at the BPA Office of the Attorney General’s Office in South Jakarta on Thursday, 21 May 2026. He had earlier referenced the desire of BPA Kejaksaan head Kuntadi to hold BPA Fair once a year.
‘I hope, Mr Kuntadi, this aligns with his expectations, that the BPA Fair is conducted continuously, year after year as a fixed event. However I hope not every event is fixed. Whenever there is a specific time when we must conduct an auction, we should conduct the auction. Let us not be bound to once a year,’ Burhanuddin said.
Burhanuddin did not want evidence items such as cars seized to sit idle for too long. He argued that the maintenance costs of seized assets become a burden. ‘I hope these evidentiary items do not linger too long. If they do, damages occur. Cars that sit idle accrue costs for maintenance and storage; this would become a financial burden,’ he said.
Burhanuddin also urged BPA Kejaksaan RI to hold auctions when there are important matters. He hoped state finances would recover more quickly. ‘What might be auctioned in a large, public sale once a year could be acceptable. But urgent matters—especially I hope there will be accelerations—so that the state’s finances can be recovered quickly, and of course the implementation should be swift and successful,’ he added.
