'Hi Chief' wins local Derby

JAKARTA (JP): Hi Chief from Central Java won the Hari Ibu Trophy at the traditional meet at the Pulomas horse track, East Jakarta, Sunday.

Hi Chief outran eight rivals in the Derby, a 1,300-meter race. Royal Ivor from Jakarta and Batang Rajawali also from Jakarta came second and third respectively.

Eight races, including the 600, 1,100 and 1,000 meters were held to commemorate Mother's Day.

Iwan Liesaputra from the Indonesian Horseracing Association said after observing the success of Sunday's racing that the association is planning to hold 12 horse race meets next year. "A number of trophies will be up for grabs at next year's races", he said. (lnt)
