Beirut (ANTARA) - The Hezbollah group opposes direct talks between Lebanon and Israel and does not expect any positive results from those talks, said Hezbollah’s Deputy Head of the Political Council, Mahmoud Komati, to RIA Novosti.

“The ceasefire in Lebanon occurred thanks to Iran. We do not expect positive results (from the talks) regarding Lebanon. We firmly reject direct talks between Lebanon and the enemy Israel, and we do not accept them at all,” said Komati.

According to the group’s leadership, Iran’s tough stance forced the United States and Israel to agree to ceasefire talks in Lebanon. Meanwhile, Washington and Tel Aviv are trying to portray the situation as if they initiated those talks.

He added that this is described as the impact of Iran’s victory, which prompted US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to quickly restore authority in Lebanon so that the ceasefire does not appear as the result of Iran’s efforts.

The Saudi broadcaster Al Hadath reported, citing official Lebanese sources, that the Lebanon-Israel talks will take place on Tuesday (14/4). The US has assured Lebanon that Israel will not bomb Beirut before the talks begin.
