Beirut - Approximately 100 rockets and drones were launched from Lebanon into Israel on Saturday (7 March), while Israeli tanks moved toward the southern Lebanon border, according to reports from Hezbollah’s Al-Manar television. Cross-border hostilities have intensified amid Israeli strikes in several areas in Lebanon. Islamic Resistance, Hezbollah’s military wing, said the projectiles were fired from Lebanese territory toward Israeli targets on that day. In a separate statement, Hezbollah said its fighters targeted the Iron Dome air-defence radar system at the Kiryat Eliezer site, described as Haifa’s main air-defence base, at 20:00 local time, with rockets described as precision missiles. In another statement, the group said it also targeted the Stella Maris base — a strategic facility used for maritime surveillance along the northern Israeli coast — with a similar volley of rockets at the same time. Additionally, Hezbollah renewed warnings to residents of Nahariya and Kiryat Shmona, urging them to evacuate. Al-Manar TV reported several Israeli Merkava tanks moving from the Avivim settlement in Israel toward Aitaroun in southern Lebanon. According to Al-Manar TV, the movement of Israeli forces was thwarted by a volley of rockets, and heavy machine-gun fire was heard in the Al-Zuqaq neighbourhood on the outskirts of the town. Hezbollah announced the launch of rockets from Lebanon into Israeli territory on Monday (2 March) early morning, the first since the truce declared on 27 November 2024. That action prompted the government to announce a ban on security and military activities by the group, restricting its activities to politics only, and requiring them to surrender their weapons. Meanwhile, the Israeli military launched what it described as an “offensive military operation” against Hezbollah, involving intensive air strikes across several areas of Lebanon and ground incursions at the border, accompanied by warnings for residents to evacuate from areas south of the Litani River and the southern outskirts of Beirut.
