Hezbollah Drone Attack Kills Israeli Soldier
Israel has confirmed the death of one of its soldiers following a Hezbollah drone attack in southern Lebanon. The toll on Israeli military personnel since early March now stands at 25.
According to AFP and Al Jazeera on Sunday, 31 May 2026, Hezbollah has continued launching drone strikes into Israeli territory, leading to reciprocal Israeli military actions.
The deceased soldier has been identified as Staff Sergeant Michael Tyukin, 21. An Israeli military spokesperson told AFP he died in the Hezbollah drone attack.
“Killed in combat in southern Lebanon,” the Israeli military stated in a brief release.
In total, 25 Israelis have been killed, comprising 24 soldiers and one civilian contractor. These casualties have accumulated since hostilities between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah resumed on 2 March, when the Shia militant group reopened its front to support Tehran following Israeli-US strikes.
Separately, the Israeli military said it intercepted hostile aircraft at 10:49 am in the Zar’it area of northern Israel. Additionally, reports indicated “suspicious aerial targets” fell in open areas, triggering sirens in several border towns, though no casualties were reported.
