Istanbul (ANTARA) - Hezbollah Member of Parliament, Hassan Fadlallah, stated on Monday that no “unilateral” ceasefire will hold in Lebanon and emphasised that there will be no “return” to the conditions that existed before 2 March. Speaking to the Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Manar television station, Fadlallah said Lebanon’s current position focuses on a comprehensive ceasefire across land, air, and sea, as a necessary step to encourage the withdrawal of Israeli forces and enable the return of displaced residents to their villages. He stated that this position has been communicated to all parties and must include a “clear and explicit” commitment from Israel, alongside an end to the destruction of homes in southern Lebanon. Fadlallah added that Hezbollah would adhere to any agreement once Israel commits to its implementation, while asserting that the group will not accept unilateral compliance with a ceasefire. According to Fadlallah, pressure from Iran and threats to suspend negotiations have contributed to the changing direction of the situation. These statements follow US President Donald Trump’s assertion on Monday that Israel and Hezbollah had agreed to cease mutual attacks following communications through intermediaries. Trump stated he had communicated via intermediaries with both sides and received assurances that all firing would stop. Israel has continued to launch attacks into Lebanon despite a ceasefire that took effect on 17 April, which was subsequently extended for 45 days following US-mediated indirect negotiations. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, more than 3,400 people have been killed in attacks since 2 March.
