The leadership of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia respects the law enforcement process after Chairman Hery Susanto was designated as a suspect by the Attorney General’s Office (AGO). It is known that Hery Susanto was named a suspect in a criminal corruption case concerning the management of nickel mining business in Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra). “The leadership of the Ombudsman RI fully respects the ongoing legal process and hands over the handling of this case to the authorised law enforcers and will be cooperative,” the Ombudsman stated in its official statement, quoted on Friday (17/4/2026). Therefore, the Ombudsman reaffirms its commitment to the principles of transparency, accountability, and respect for the presumption of innocence. “Every party has the right to a fair legal process in accordance with applicable laws and regulations,” the Ombudsman wrote. “The leadership of the Ombudsman RI for the 2026-2031 period conveys apologies for the public inconvenience and regrets that this incident occurred, and is strongly committed to continuing to maintain public trust in the task of supervising public services with full integrity,” the Ombudsman wrote. To ensure the continuity of duties and services, the leadership of the Ombudsman RI ensures the necessary internal steps in accordance with institutional mechanisms. “In addition, the public service oversight function continues as it should and is not disrupted by the ongoing legal process,” the Ombudsman stated. The Head of the Legal Information Centre of the AGO, Anang Supriatna, said that the designation of the suspect was based on evidence found by investigators. “The investigation team has designated suspect HS,” Anang said during a press conference at the AGO in Jakarta on Thursday (16/4/2026).
