JAKARTA - The Chairman of the Indonesian Ombudsman, Hery Susanto (HS), is alleged to have received Rp 1.5 billion in a suspected criminal corruption case concerning the governance of nickel mining permits in Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) from 2013 to 2025. The Director of Investigations at the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung), Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, stated that the flow of billions of rupiah was detected entering Hery while he was still serving as a Commissioner of the Indonesian Ombudsman. “So, this was when the individual was a commissioner. This incident occurred in 2025. For 2025, we have detected receipts of money amounting to around Rp 1.5 billion so far,” said Syarief during a press conference at the Kejagung in Jakarta on Thursday (16/4/2026). Syarief explained that Hery was named a suspect after the investigation team obtained sufficient evidence through a series of investigative actions and searches. He continued that PT TSHI sought a solution and then, together with Hery Susanto, arranged for adjustments. “As a result, the letter or policy from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry was corrected by the Ombudsman, with instructions for PT TSHI to calculate its own burden to be paid,” he added. In carrying out this, the suspect Hery received a sum of money from the Director of PT TSHI, initialled LKM. Hery is alleged to have violated Article 12 letter a, 12 letter b, Article 5, and Article 606 of the new Criminal Code. “The suspect will be detained for the next 20 days at the Salemba Detention Centre branch of the South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office,” he said.
