Herman Deru Confirms Egg Supply to Support Free Nutritious Meal Programme in South Sumatra

South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru accompanied Presidential Chief of Staff General (Ret.) Dudung Abdurachman on an inspection of a layer farm owned by PT Banyuasin Mukut Inti in Banyuasin Regency. During the visit, he observed first-hand the farm’s operations, which are supported by modern housing and a substantial production capacity.

Herman Deru stated that the visit was part of efforts to ensure the readiness of the regional livestock sector and egg stocks in South Sumatra to support the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme. He emphasised that the programme must not disrupt the supply of eggs for household needs.

He explained that the farm is capable of producing approximately 16 to 20 tonnes of eggs per day. With this production capacity, the availability of eggs to support the implementation of the MBG Programme is expected to be met while maintaining the community’s own egg requirements.

“With the large stock of eggs produced from this modern facility, it can accommodate 16 to 20 tonnes per day. Thus, the availability of eggs for the MBG will not disrupt other household needs,” Herman Deru said in a statement on Thursday (13/8/2026).

Herman Deru noted that PT Banyuasin Mukut Inti is one of the largest layer farms in South Sumatra. The farm’s existence is considered to play an important role in strengthening food availability, particularly the egg commodity, in the region.

He added that the development of the farm has received attention from the regional government for several years. In 2022, Herman Deru inaugurated the PT Banyuasin Mukut Inti layer farm and factory.

“This is one of the layer farms in South Sumatra. We inaugurated it in 2022 and today we see its development; its production is quite large,” he said.

Herman Deru expressed hope that the modern farm will continue to be developed so it can meet the needs of the community while strengthening support for various government programmes, including the MBG Programme initiated by President Prabowo Subianto.

He also assessed that the development of large-scale farms has a positive impact on the regional economy, including through job creation and strengthening the food supply chain in South Sumatra.
