Heritage Year 2003 opens

YOGYAKARTA: Minister of Tourism and Culture I Gde Ardhika and
Minister of Agriculture Bungaran Saragih on Wednesday jointly
marked the beginning of Indonesia Heritage Year 2003 at Sambi
village, Pakem, Sleman regency, some 20 kilometers north of here.

A five-day international symposium and workshop on Managing
Heritage Environment in Asia was also opened officially on the
same day.

Organizing committee chairman Laretna T. Adishakti said a
series of activities such as seminars, workshops, heritage tours
and trails, exhibitions and heritage education programs had been
organized in a number of provinces.

"We're also preparing a heritage charter and hope that we will
be able to declare it before the end of 2003," Laretna, also the
Chairman of Gadjah Mada University's Center for Heritage
Conservation, said. --JP
