Heritage Flag Park in South Jakarta Under Tight Security Due to Never-Ending Crowds

The Jakarta Parks and Forestry Department has tightened security at Taman Bendera Pusaka in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, which is said to never be empty of visitors during its 24-hour operation. “Indeed, security aspects must be anticipated. We have coordinated with the local sub-district authorities,” said Head of the Jakarta Parks and Forestry Department Fajar Sauri to Kompas.com on Friday (30/4/2026). Fajar stated that security is handled by deploying sub-district heads, village heads, and the Public Order Agency. Their duties are divided between inside and outside the park area. “For CCTV, there are a total of 293 units. But that’s for 36 parks (in Jakarta). At Taman Bempus (Bendera Pusaka), there are 27 CCTVs,” said Fajar. However, the vehicles entering still exceed the available capacity. According to Fajar, the visitor pattern at Taman Bendera Pusaka is quite unique. In the afternoon, the area is dominated by families and children playing in the playground area, feeding fish, and engaging in open-space activities. “It’s funny when you go there; there are categories. In the afternoon, there are many families and children. Some play in the Children’s Playground (CPG), slides, some feed birds, feed fish too,” he said. Meanwhile, as night falls, the atmosphere changes. “So the movement of visitors shifts until night, even until morning it can be crowded,” said Fajar. According to Fajar, this condition also poses its own challenges, particularly regarding cleanliness. The volume of waste in the park area has increased significantly along with the high number of public visits. “This must be anticipated, including the waste. The waste is really a lot,” he said.
