The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) held the 2026 Outstanding Regional Government Appreciation event for the Kalimantan region on Tuesday, 5 May 2026 evening. In this event, organised in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, the central government is committed to providing tangible appreciation to local governments that demonstrate the best performance. Kemendagri has allocated a budget of Rp1 trillion specifically as fiscal incentives for outstanding regions.

“Providing incentives certainly brings a sense of happiness and greater motivation for regional heads,” said Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian. Both provincial, regency, and city levels will receive fiscal incentives of Rp3 billion for first place, Rp2 billion for second place, and Rp1 billion for third place.

Tito explained that the assessment uses objective data, involving the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and relevant ministries/agencies without any intervention. The rankings will be released openly to the public. “If the index is high for all, that region will become a favourite for investors and entrepreneurs. Even politically, this can increase the electability of Mr/Ms regional heads,” he said.

The CEO of Tempo Media Group, Arif Zulkifli, stated that the achievements of local governments do not stand alone. “There is always an adaptation process behind them that is important for the public to know,” he said. Therefore, he continued, the media has an important role as a bridge of information to convey regional development progress to the wider public.

Kemendagri is holding the 2026 Outstanding Regional Government Appreciation. In its implementation, this competition is not held uniformly but uses a regional approach. The event is divided into several waves, covering Sumatra, Kalimantan, Java-Bali, Sulawesi, Maluku-Nusa Tenggara, and Papua regions.
