Herdman's Reasons for Omitting Jordi Amat and Eliano from Indonesia National Team Squad
Indonesia national team coach John Herdman has explained the reasons for omitting naturalised players Eliano Reijnders and Jordi Amat from the squad for the June 2026 FIFA Matchday. He indicated that both players are being prepared for the 2026 ASEAN Championship or Piala AFF 2026. Eliano and Jordi were initially included in the provisional 44-man squad for the international break but were later excluded when PSSI announced the final 23-man roster for matches against Oman (5 June) and Mozambique (9 June) at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta. Herdman stated that Eliano is currently injured, similar to captain Jay Idzes, who is also sidelined for the June international window. He added that they want to ensure both players are fully recovered before the AFF Championship preparations. Herdman also confirmed that he discussed with Jordi, who has had a long season, and they mutually agreed not to include him in this month’s FIFA matchday. The coach has opted to bring in younger players to replace Jordi’s absence.
