Herd of Rhinos fly in Jakarta for annual tour

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

The Rhinos Rugby Club mustered in Jakarta on Friday for its much- heralded 19th annual tour. The Rhinos, selected from Asia's top rugby clubs, have developed an astonishing reputation both on and off the field for their touring prowess throughout the region.

Following spectacular success in South Asia, the Rhinos on Saturday take on the International Sports Club of Indonesia (ISCI) at the ISCI grounds in South Jakarta, with the game scheduled to start at 4 p.m..

The ISCI team will feature some heavyweight Aussies and Brits and an equally mixed bunched of rugby aficionados, both expats and Indonesian.

This year marks the first time since 1987 the Rhinos have returned to Indonesia, as the club policy is to tread on green fields every year.

In recent years the Rhinos have grazed in new pastures, playing matches in Laos, Nepal, Vietnam, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, China and South Africa.

The ISCI team, a stalwart of regional rugby for decades, was keen to host the return fixture on its 18th anniversary, and is eagerly anticipating the chance to lock horns with Asia's most prestigious touring team.
