Hendrosari Village in Gresik Grows Through BRI's Desa BRILiaN Programme
The strengthening of village economies continues to be promoted through the Desa BRILiaN programme. This initiative is considered one of the strategies for building new growth centres based on local potential, with Hendrosari Village in Gresik Regency serving as a concrete example.
BRI’s Micro Director, Akhmad Purwakajaya, stated that Desa BRILiaN focuses on strengthening the foundation of the people’s economy through four main pillars: village institutions, digitalisation of financial services, sustainable economic development, and village innovation.
“The Desa BRILiaN programme focuses on four main pillars, namely strengthening village institutions such as BUMDes and cooperatives, digitalisation of financial services through BRImo and AgenBRILink, sustainable economic development, and village innovation. BRI consistently provides mentoring so that villages can optimise their potential independently,” Akhmad said in a statement on Monday (30/3/2026).
He added that the programme has now reached more than 5,200 villages across Indonesia and continues to be expanded to create new economic growth centres in various regions.
One example is visible in Hendrosari Village, Menganti Subdistrict, Gresik Regency. This village has successfully developed local potential based on lontar trees as a driver of residents’ economy.
On approximately 190 hectares of land, thousands of lontar trees are utilised for the production of legen, a traditional drink that serves as a source of livelihood for the community. Village economic development has further strengthened since the arrival of the Edu Lontar Sewu tourism site in 2019.
