Hendropriyono Denies Coup Allegations Against Government
Retired TNI General AM Hendropriyono has strongly denied any involvement in a coup against the government, following rumours circulating on social media. He dismissed the information as a hoax.
"Neither I nor those close to me are involved. There are no friends or family members who do not support the government," Hendropriyono stated on Friday (19/6/2026), as reported by detikNews, when asked about allegations that people near him were behind a movement harshly criticising the government and regarding his commitment to the soldier’s oath.
"We all do not support and did not order anyone to carry out activities aimed at overthrowing the legitimate government. It is not true," he continued.
According to Hendropriyono, the expression of public opinion must remain within legal and constitutional corridors. He therefore asserted that information claiming he supports the overthrow of the government is a hoax and slander.
"In our country, the expression of public opinion in a democracy must remain within the corridors of law and the constitution. Therefore, all accusations linking me and those around me to an agenda to overthrow the government, without valid evidence, are hoaxes and irresponsible slander," he said.
He stated that from his active service in the TNI until his retirement, he has consistently upheld the principle of safeguarding the integrity of the Republic of Indonesia and national stability.
"Since the beginning, my fellow soldiers and I, now retired, especially those still active, have dedicated ourselves to the state in various assignments. Our principle is the same: to safeguard the integrity of the Republic of Indonesia, which is based on Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution, and national stability," said the first head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) from 2001 to 2004.
He cautioned the public against easily believing false information and urged them to verify every piece of information they receive.
"I invite the public not to easily believe hoaxes, especially simulacra. Always check the facts before spreading information, do not just forward it," he said.
