Former Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), A.M. Hendropriyono, has stated that the increase in public trust in the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to 82.4 per cent is proof that the public feels the benefits of the institution’s reform efforts. The figure was released in the latest survey by Litbang Kompas.

“Of course, we are very pleased because the public satisfaction survey result for Polri, which reached 82.4 per cent, must truly be appreciated as an indicator that the public feels the various improvement efforts in service and law enforcement,” Hendropriyono told journalists on Monday (29/6/2026).

Hendropriyono urged that the increase in public trust should not make the police force complacent. He said the latest public survey results must be balanced with improved performance and service.

“However, we are also aware that the survey is not the final goal. Public trust must be maintained every day through professional, transparent, and fair performance by Polri,” he said.

According to Hendropriyono, the challenges facing Polri in the future remain complex. He encouraged the police to continue investigating many crimes while remaining humanist and respecting human rights.

“My hope, as is the hope of the public in general, is that Polri will become increasingly precise in law enforcement. Fast and accurate in service, firm against various forms of crime, and we remain humanist. And respect human rights as well as maintain the neutrality and integrity of Polri,” he explained.

“The utilisation of today’s digital technology and artificial intelligence also needs to continue to be developed so that public services become increasingly accurate and accountable,” Hendropriyono added.

The Litbang Kompas survey was conducted from 9 to 18 April 2026. The method used was face-to-face interviews with 1,200 respondents. Sampling was carried out randomly using a multistage systematic sampling method across 38 provinces. The margin of error is 2.83 per cent with a 95 per cent confidence level.

The results of the Litbang Kompas survey show that public trust in Polri rose to 82.4 per cent. Not only that, the institutional image of Polri also rose significantly to 71.5 per cent from the previous year’s percentage of 64.4 per cent.

Litbang Kompas also asked for assessments from respondents who had interacted with Polri. The result showed that the professionalism performance score of Polri rose from a previous 7.76 to 8.37. This assessment of Polri’s service professionalism was derived from the average index of 20 aspects from respondents who had interacted with the police, such as document processing. In addition, 80 per cent of respondents stated that service facilities at police stations are now comfortable.

This significant increase in trust places Polri on the list of the five most trusted state institutions by the public. In fact, according to the Litbang Kompas survey, its level of trust is acknowledged by the public as relatively higher than other law enforcement agencies, such as the Attorney General’s Office, the Supreme Court, and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
