Hendri leads seeds to Cigna 3rd round

Indonesia's No. 2 Hendri Susilo Pramono won his second-round match over Ferdi Fauzi as seeded players marched to the next stage of the US$11,800 Cigna Open tennis tournament at the Jakarta Hilton International's Executive Club on Wednesday.

One hundred and fifty-five players are competing in the fifth edition of the tournament, which is offering a total US$11,800 in cash prizes.

Top seed Hendri, who got a bye in the first round, outplayed Fauzi 6-4, 6-2, while Hendri's Davis Cup teammate and second seed Suwandi beat Samsudin Pare 6-3, 6-3.

Third seed Sebastian Dacosta dispatched Chrismayanto 6-3, 6-1, and fourth seed Edy Kusdaryanto followed suit in just four games with his 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Agung Bagus.

Former national team ace and fifth seed Bonit Wiryawan overpowered Cuk Prihatmanto 6-2, 6-1. Other seeded players advancing to the third round are Eko Kurniawan (sixth), Sulistyo Wibowo (seventh) and Ariawan Purbo (10th).

However, the tournament produced upsets for Indonesia's future hope Immanuel Prabowo (8th), Immanuel Prakoso (9th) and Sunu Wahyu Trijati (11th) who fell to shocking defeats on Wednesday.

Prakoso lost to Anderi S. 6-0, 7-5 while Prabowo fell to Elbert Sie 7-5, 6-2. Sunu crashed out at the hands of veteran Tjahjono 6-3, 6-2.

The women's singles competition, which played the first-round matches on Tuesday and Wednesday, also saw the seeded contenders pass through to the next stage, led by the country's No. 7 and top seed Wukirasih Sawondari.

Wukirasih won her second-round ticket on Tuesday with an easy 6-1, 6-3 win over Mia Sacca. On Wednesday, second seed Ayu Fani Damayanti followed, blanking Lutfiana 6-0, 6-0.

Other top players to march to the next round are Eny Sulistyowati (3rd), Dian Anggra (4th), Mimma Chernovita (5th), Lavinia Tananta (6th) and Novianti Warsono (8th).

Aleta Sungkono was the only seeded player to flop. The seventh seed surrendered 6-1, 6-3 to qualifier Agustina Wibisono, who has also turned coach.
