Hendarto Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison for LPEI Corruption Case
Hendarto, the owner of PT Sakti Mait Jaya Langit and PT Mega Alam Sejahtera, has been sentenced to prison. The judge declared Hendarto guilty in a corruption case related to export financing from the Indonesian Export Financing Agency (LPEI) during the 2014-2015 period. “Sentencing the defendant to eight years in prison,” said presiding judge Brelly Yuniar Dien Wardi Haskori while reading the verdict at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court on Monday (22/6/2026). The judge also imposed a fine of Rp 500 million, with a subsidiary penalty of 140 days in custody. Additionally, Hendarto was ordered to pay restitution of Rp 1,059,350,000,000 (1.05 trillion) and USD 49,875,000, with a subsidiary sentence of seven years in prison. “The actions resulted in state financial losses totalling Rp 1,059,350,000,000 and USD 49,875,000,” the judge stated. Aggravating factors for the sentence included the fact that Hendarto’s actions were deemed not to support the government’s efforts to eradicate corruption and caused substantial state losses. Furthermore, Hendarto used the proceeds of corruption for gambling and purchasing luxury goods. “The defendant used the money for gambling and buying luxury items,” the judge noted. Mitigating factors included Hendarto having no prior criminal record, being in ill health, and being cooperative during the trial. The judge declared Hendarto guilty of violating Article 603 in conjunction with Article 20 letter c in conjunction with Article 126 of the Criminal Code, in conjunction with Article 18 of the Corruption Eradication Law. Previously, Hendarto had been sentenced to eight years in prison by prosecutors. The prosecution was convinced of Hendarto’s guilt in the corruption case involving export financing from LPEI during 2014-2015. “(We request the panel of judges) to sentence the defendant Hendarto to eight years in prison,” the prosecutor stated while reading the indictment at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday (12/5). The prosecutor demanded Hendarto pay a fine of Rp 500 million, subsidiary to 140 days in custody. The prosecutor also demanded Hendarto pay restitution of Rp 1.6 trillion and USD 14.95 million, subsidiary to six years in prison.
