Hendarsam Marantoko Appointed as Director General of Immigration via Presidential Decree, to be Inaugurated in April

The Indonesian government has appointed Hendarsam Marantoko as the new Director General of Immigration based on Presidential Decree Number 187/TPA of 2025.

The appointment of Hendarsam Marantoko as the new Director General of Immigration was confirmed by Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections Silmy Karim. “Yes, that is correct,” Silmy was quoted as saying by ANTARA.

Silmy stated that Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko will officially assume his position after the handover of duties ceremony. Until the inauguration takes place, the Acting Director General will continue to be assigned the responsibilities.

“(He will assume office) pending the handover ceremony,” Silmy said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Data, Information and Public Communication Centre at the Ministry of Immigration M Akbar Hadi Prabowo stated that the handover of duties ceremony for the Director General of Immigration and the inauguration process will take place in April 2026.

“The handover ceremony is planned for early April,” he said.

Hendarsam Marantoko has a background as a lawyer and politician, born in Tanjung Karang on 22 December 1977. He was appointed through Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 187/TPA of 2025, signed by President Prabowo Subianto.

The owner of a law firm named Hendarsam Marantoko and Partners (HMP) completed his undergraduate law degree at Lampung University in 2002 and pursued a master’s degree in law at Gadjah Mada University in 2020.

Previously, on Tuesday 3 March, the Ministry of Immigration held an open selection process for the second round of Director General of Immigration appointments, along with an open selection for the Head of BPSDM with registrations beginning on 9-27 March 2026, followed by administrative screening on 30 March - 2 April 2026.

On Tuesday 10 March, the Ministry of Immigration announced that the open selection for Director General of Immigration had been closed following the presidential appointment decision.

“The appointment of the Director General of Immigration has been issued through Presidential Decree,” said Akbar.

With the Director General of Immigration now appointed through the presidential decree, the requirement to fill this position has been fulfilled through the mechanism of appointing senior executive officials in accordance with applicable regulations.
